The Garland Police Department has stepped up high visibility patrols as a part of the Operation: Slowdown! project. The extra patrols started Friday, July 14, and they will run through Sunday, July 30.
The project is funded through a TXDOT grant program that increases effective enforcement and adjudication of traffic safety-related laws to reduce fatal and serious injury crashes.
The following 2022 statistics from TXDOT are shocking and tragic, especially since speeding is a 100% preventable traffic violation that can be avoided.
In 2022, TXDOT traffic fatality statistics revealed the following:
One person was killed every one hour, 57 minutes
One person was injured every two minutes, nine seconds
One reportable crash occurred every 57 seconds
Speeding tickets can cost hundreds of dollars depending on the location, added court costs and the extent of the violation.
To remind motorists that driving too fast can be dangerous and expensive, TxDOT is partnering with law enforcement agencies across the Lone Star State as they step up their efforts to enforce speed limits during Operation Slowdown. In addition to writing tickets, law enforcement vehicles will spend extra time driving the roads reminding motorists what a safe speed looks like…www.txdot.gov.
