The Garland Owls have made their way through two rounds of the playoffs. Their next opponent will be Ellison High School (Killeen), date and time TBA.
In the bi-district round, played Tuesday, Feb. 22, the Owls defeated North Mesquite High School by a final score of 64-42. Zuby Ejiofor, the Owls’ four-star recruit and Kansas signee, scored 29 points and had 17 rebounds.
As of Feb. 24, the Garland Owls were ranked No. 17 in 6A and No. 25 in Texas by www.maxpreps.com.
Friday, Feb. 25, GHS played the area round of playoffs and Ejiofor once again led his team to a win. The score was 69-64. Ejiofor contributed 27 points in this contest.
Ejiofor is ranked No. 46 in the country. This season, he has averaged 20.9 points per game with 12.5 rebounds.
The varsity basketball head coach is Randy Love, a 1975 graduate of Garland High School. He lettered three years in football, basketball and track before attending the University of Houston on an athletic scholarship. After a successful college career, he played professional football for the St. Louis Cardinals. Love has spent 18 years coaching for Garland ISD, first at Naaman Forest High School, and for the last 17 years, at GHS.
