Thursday, March 25, just before 4 a.m. the Garland Police Department responded to a crash involving a pedestrian on westbound Interstate 30 near Rosehill Road. Investigators believe the pedestrian, a white male, was walking in the roadway before being struck by an 18-wheeler. The male was transported to a nearby hospital, by the Garland Fire Department, where he was pronounced deceased.
GPD officers learned that two 18-wheelers were traveling westbound on Interstate 30 when one swerved to avoid the pedestrian walking in a travel lane. The 18-wheeler traveling behind was unable to stop in time to avoid impact.
The male has been identified as 60-year-old Richard Clyde Autry, Jr. of Garland.
There are no other injuries reported and no criminal charges filed on the driver at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
