May 21, just after 8:30 pm, the Garland Police Department responded to a gunshot disturbance in the 2000 block of Highwood Drive. Upon arriving on scene, GPD officers located a male subject, later identified as 17-year-old Devonte Duncan, suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim was transported to Texas Health Presbyterian Dallas where he later died from his injury.
Homicide detectives arrived to investigate and the investigation led detectives to believe an altercation had occurred between Duncan and another male subject. Duncan was shot during the altercation.
The male involved in the altercation left the location but was later found and taken into custody. He was identified as 18-yea- old Sabir Arebo Adem.
Adem is charged with Murder and is currently in the Garland Detention Center. No bond has been set.
The investigation is ongoing but this is believed to be an isolated incident. Detectives will continue to interview possible witnesses to determine what lead to the shooting death of Duncan.
