Update: Edgar Alfonso Ugalde is in custody. On Nov. 19, Ugalde turned himself in at the Garland Police Department. He is currently in the Garland Detention Center and is charged with Failure to Stop and Render Aid – Involving Death. No bond has been set at this time.
Update: Investigators have identified 27-year-old Edgar Alfonso Ugalde as the driver of the Ram pickup. An arrest warrant for failure to stop and render aid has been issued for his arrest.
The Garland Police Department is attempting to identify the driver of a fatal hit and run crash that occurred Thursday, Nov. 14 at approximately 11:45 p.m.
Garland police officers responded to a hit and run crash at the intersection of Jupiter Road and Forest Lane. Upon arrival, officers observed an Asian female unconscious inside a light-colored Toyota 4Runner.
The female was transported to a hospital but later pronounced deceased.
Investigators believe that a black, four-door Ram Big Horn pickup was traveling northbound on Jupiter Road at a high rate of speed and the 4Runner was traveling westbound on Forest Lane. As the 4Runner entered the intersection, it was struck on the driver’s side by the Ram.
Witnesses stated they observed the driver of the Ram exit the vehicle and get into a black passenger car shortly after the crash occurred and then fled the scene without rendering aid.
Investigators are attempting to identify the driver of the Ram. Witnesses described him as a Hispanic male with a short fade haircut. He was believed to be wearing a black soccer-style jersey with white writing on the front and back, black shorts and leggings.
The female victim is identified as 46-year-old Joyce Cawis of Rowlett.
