Police search for male suspected of shooting at officers

Mar. 21, 2022

Garland police are investigating an incident where a male fled in a vehicle and is suspected of shooting at officers. Monday, March 21, just before 3 a.m., Garland police officers attempted to stop a white 2017 Chrysler 300 in the 1800 block of Northwest Highway.

A check of the vehicle license plate revealed the registered owner had a felony warrant for a sexual crime related to a child out of the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office. When the officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver accelerated at a high rate of speed attempting to evade arrest.

The driver of the Chrysler crashed into a stop sign at the intersection of Northwest Highway and Sleepy Hollow Drive. The driver then exited from the vehicle and continued fleeing from the officers on foot. As officers pursued the driver on foot, they heard several shots. Believing they were being fired upon, the officers took cover.

An extensive search was conducted utilizing the DPS helicopter and K-9, but it is believed the suspect is no longer in the area. The investigation is active and officers remain in the area collecting evidence.
