On February 26 at just after 6 p.m., Garland police and paramedics responded to a report of a medical emergency in the 3900 block of Plymouth Drive. When they arrived they found 13-year-old Matthew Cisneros dead from an apparent gunshot wound. A gun was lying beside him.
Detectives were called to the scene and began their investigation. The initial investigation did not confirm either suicide or murder. Detectives continued their investigation by going over evidence, working with the Dallas County Medical Examiner and contacting relatives and friends of Matthew.
On March 20, a 12-year-old male was taken into custody for manslaughter in the shooting death of Matthew Cisneros.
Detectives believe Matthew and the 12-year-old friend were playing with the gun inside Matthew’s home. Detectives believe the 12-year-old male thought the gun was unloaded when he pulled the trigger.
