Resources available for COVID recovery

The city of Garland continues to announce assistance resources and partnerships that are helping residents who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Assistance with rent and mortgage payments, food, utilities, counseling, job placement and more is available through the nonprofits listed below:

Rental and Mortgage Assistance Referrals

Qualifying households impacted by COVID-19 may apply for assistance with rent and mortgage payments.  Assistance is available through the following partners:

Rental Assistance

Assistance in meeting food supply needs is available from Good Samaritan of Garland. Additionally, seniors and disabled adults may also qualify for meal delivery services through the Meals on Wheels program.

Senior Citizens – Utilities, Food and Basic Needs – Referrals

In addition to the Meals on Wheels Program, additional utility assistance, food and basic needs assistance for Garland senior residents age 62 or older experiencing a loss due to COVID-19 are available through The Senior Source Elder Financial Safety Program.

Medical Services Referrals

No-cost medical services to Garland residents 18-years or older and affected by COVID-19 are being provided by Hope Clinic of Garland for individuals without health insurance or medical assistance coverage.

Counseling Services – Referrals

Counseling services are available to individuals and families that have expressed a negative impact due to COVID-19.  In addition, Income-eligible Garland residents receiving COVID-related counseling services from the Counseling Institute of Texas may be eligible for food services.

Rental assistance and counseling available to women and children who have experienced domestic violence due to the COVID-19 crisis through Hope’s Door New Beginning Center.

The American Red Cross has activated a Virtual Family Assistance Center for anyone who lost a loved one due to COVID-19.

If you are struggling to pay city utility bills, contact Utility Customer Service as soon as possible. Atmos Energy also is offering resources to address natural gas bills.
