GHS student attends trumpet camp at NSU

Northwestern State University Associate Professor of Trumpet Galindo Rodriguez worked with a group of high school trumpet players during the university’s annual Honors Wind Ensemble Music Camp.

 

Those taking part were, front from left, Allison Jenkins of Jacksonville, Florida, Garland High School student Keaton McGill, Zeshan Farooq of Little Elm, Texas, middle row, Adam Bowen and Cody Clark of Queen City, Texas, Noah Rampmaier of Bossier City, back row, Rodriguez, Isaac Kent of Bossier City and Northwestern State University student Lane Clevenger of Natchitoches. Clevenger was assistant to Rodriguez and as one of the camp counselors.

 

Rodriguez served as applied trumpet clinician and ensemble coach. Throughout the week, he provided private instruction, daily master classes and ensemble preparation for a Thursday evening concert. Subjects covered during the master classes included: four basic fundamentals of trumpet playing, respiration as applied to trumpet playing, stylistic considerations for standard trumpet literature, intonation and psychology of performance.

 

About NSU camps: The NSU Summer Music Camps are designed to meet the special musical needs of students. The camper will enjoy a collegiate atmosphere with instruction and supervision provided by expert NSU staff and faculty along with qualified band/choir directors and outstanding NSU undergraduate and graduate students.

 

About Galindo Rodriguez: The professor of trumpet earned the Bachelor of Music and the Master of Music Education from the University of North Texas. He performed as Principal Trumpet of the Chicago Civic Symphony from 1978-1980. From 1980-1984 he held the position of Principal Trumpet of the Boise Philharmonic and taught Applied Trumpet at Boise State University. In 1987 he earned the Certificate in Performance from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. His teachers include Adolph Herseth, Vincent Cichowicz, John J. Haynie, and Dr. Leonard Candelaria. He has performed with the Fort Worth Symphony, the Chicago Chamber Orchestra, and the Shreveport Symphony.
