On Sept. 5, just before 10 p.m., the Garland Police Department responded to an aggravated robbery where shots were fired in the 2800 block of Cumberland Drive.
Officers learned the victim had just arrived home when a gray BMW passed by with the headlights turned off. The BMW turned around and parked several houses away from where the victim was parked. As the victim was retrieving items from his vehicle, two suspects wielding handguns approached him and demand his belongings.
The victim produced a handgun in defense and the suspects fled toward the BMW. At some point, it is believed the suspects fired at the victim and the victim returned fire. No one was injured. Officers learned there were several people inside the BMW who are believed to be involved with the robbery.
Officers were able to identify and locate two of the suspects, a 14-year-old juvenile Hispanic female, and a 17-year-old Black male identified as Garrett Xavier Pickens. Two of the other suspects are described as Hispanic males, one wearing a black hoodie sweatshirt, basketball style shorts and a dark-colored mask, and the other wearing a gray sweatshirt and no mask. Both are still at large.
The juvenile female and Pickens are charged with Aggravated Robbery. Pickens is currently in the Garland Detention Center on a bond of $10,000.
