Rowlett HS students arrested

The Garland ISD released the following statement Friday, Oct. 28 after an incident involving three Rowlett High School students and a weapon.

“School administrators received a report of a student having a weapon on campus. As a precaution, the campus was immediately put on Secure. The Rowlett Police Department and Garland ISD Security immediately launched an investigation, which determined that there was a weapon on campus.

Three students have been identified and arrested in connection with the weapon. Garland ISD has a zero-tolerance weapon policy, and the students are not allowed to return to campus.

Students and staff will remain in Secure until the remainder of the day to help facilitate lunch and dismissal. Release time will not be affected.

Your safety is our top priority. We appreciate our students taking part in our see something, say something protocol and for bringing this to our attention.

Later reports indicated that three RHS students had jumped another student and hit him with a loaded handgun. The three students were arrested by Rowlett police at approximately 2:15 p.m. The victim received minor injuries.

The victim reported the incident to a school resource officer at approximately 11 a.m.

Rowlett Police Department officers and Garland ISD Security found a concealed, loaded handgun in the school.

The students are juveniles. Therefore, their names will not be released.

The investigation is ongoing.
