The city of Garland has received information that companies that sell water filtration systems are advertising free at home water testing services for our water customers.
Wes Kucera, managing director of Garland Water and Wastewater Utilities, reminds residents to be alert. “It is important for our water customers to know that the Garland Water Utilities Department works continuously to monitor and test our drinking water, from the supplier pipeline all the way to the customer’s tap,” said Kucera. “Our daily tests and our recent annual Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) shows that all test results are within safe limits for drinking water. In addition, these tests are conducted by state certified laboratories using approved scientific testing methods. Our drinking water in Garland continues to be rated “Superior” by the Texas Commission of Environmental Quality (TCEQ)”.
The soliciting companies usually suggest, in a very subtle way, that they are affiliated with the city’s water department. Unless they are in uniform and wearing a city name badge, they are not a city employee. Companies claiming that the drinking water needs to be tested by an outside source are usually trying to sell consumers an unnecessary and expensive filtration system for their home The system requires future purchases of replacement filters.
The company’s contact information and location are missing from the Test My Water website and their phone number goes to a distribution company. Frightening pictures of dirty water coming from the faucet and water tests without appropriate detail are a few of the tactics used to promote sales of their products.
