Individuals that were married or honored at an event at Garland’s Pace House while it was a city-owned facility (1985 – 2013) will be recognized at an Oct. 12 ceremony. This event will mark the 10-year anniversary of the home’s celebrated move to the Travis College Hill National Register Historic District.
The historic, turn-of-the-last-century Queen Anne-style Victorian structure returned to its original status as a private residence in Oct. 2014. The relocation from downtown Garland behind City Hall to Garland’s 11th Street, about six blocks away, was an all-day event. The structure was moved by professional movers down Austin Street and into a private neighborhood.
As an events center it was the venue for numerous weddings, political rallies, anniversaries, graduation luncheons, art exhibits and other happenings. In 2013 when the city decided to use the space where the house sat to build transit-oriented housing, it held a nationwide bidding process and offered the building to a bidder that would pay to move it. A vacant lot in the Travis College Hill National Register Historic District was chosen.
Please save the date for this ceremony at 10 a.m. Oct. 12 on the Pace House front porch to acknowledge the anniversary, recognize city officials and others that assisted with the arrangements, recognize the past Pace House honorees as well as members of the Pace family.
