Saturday, April 6, Garland Mayor Scott LeMay, Garland City Council members Deborah Morris and Margaret Lucht, representatives from Ball Park Buns and Albertsons unveiled the newly renovated tee ball field for the South Garland Little League (SGLL) at Central Park. A ribbon cutting was included in the celebration, and a reveal was a part of Ball Park Buns’ Ball Park of Dreams Little League field renovation initiative.
The ceremony also featured an outdoor celebration featuring games, a carnival, free BBQ and more. The field renovations, thanks to a $20,000 grant from Ball Park Buns, that was matched by the city, included:
- Installing outfield fencing
- Installing foul poles
- Adding new soil and grass
- Shaping the infield to bring it to playing condition
Through a partnership between Ball Park Buns and Little League Baseball, fields in three states were renovated:
- As part of its multi-year partnership with Little League® Baseball and Softball, Ball Park® Buns announced the return of its Ball Park of Dreams initiative where this year’s efforts will kick off with three field renovations benefiting Little League teams located in San Diego, CA, Philadelphia, PA, and Dallas.
- The South Garland Little League serves over 600 players and is dedicated to ensuring kids can play regardless of finances. The league offers scholarships to many players so Ball Park Buns, along with the city of Garland, is stepping up to the plate to cover the field maintenance projects and repairs so that the league can focus on helping players.
- Ball Park of Dreams is part of Ball Park Buns’ continued commitment to help serve Little League Baseball and Softball teams across the country as the Official Hot Dog and Hamburger Bun of Little League Baseball and Softball
Albertsons was part of the celebration and provided the league with a $1,000 donation through the Albertsons Companies Foundation.
During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Mayor Scott LeMay acknowledged that the parents, players and sponsors of SGLL are the heart and soul of baseball and said that the sponsors keep little league going.
Corey Raine, South Garland Little League President thanked the city of Garland, Bimbo and Ball Park Buns.
