NGHS student athletes sign with colleges

May. 30, 2018

Sarah Davis, North Garland High School’s varsity girls’ soccer coach is understandably proud of five student athletes who have signed to play soccer at junior colleges next school year.

Samantha Correa, who will attend North Lake College, said that she has been playing soccer since she was 6-years-old and that she is excited to be playing for North Lake.

“Being given an opportunity to play college ball is a blessing. I’m honestly just thankful for the people who’ve helped me accomplish this goal,” Correa said.

Damaris Guajardo, who also signed with North Lake College, has played soccer for 10 years and that now feels that all her hard work has paid off.

“I’m thankful to have had the opportunity to play high school soccer, but even more blessed to have this opportunity to continue playing in college,” she said. “I’m looking forward to college!”

Halley Hernandez, who said that she is beyond excited for the upcoming school year, has been playing soccer since she was 6-years-old. She will also attend North Lake College.

“I never thought I would get the chance to play soccer in college,” she said. “I’m looking forward to playing for North Lake College.”

Brianna Hill signed with Eastfield College and said that she began playing soccer at the age of nine, which is later than most.

“Looking back at how far I’ve come since then, I’m proud that I’ve made it and proud that I can say I can keep playing in college,” Hill said.

Daisy Rosales, who will go to Paul Quinn College, is the daughter of immigrants. She said that she has been playing soccer since she learned to walk.

“I am proud to say that my parents didn’t cross that border for nothing, she said. “Getting to play college ball at this level means that those difficult conditioning hours with my dad weren’t for nothing. Those “get up again and shake it off’ moments weren’t for nothing. Those tears I cried asking my dad ‘is it worth it?’ weren’t for nothing. And now this girl is making her parents’ dream come true as a player for Paul Quinn College.”
