SHS student to play in McDonald’s All-American basketball game

Apr. 10, 2015

For the first time in Garland ISD history, a district athlete has been selected to compete in the McDonald’s All-American Games. That record-making student is Sachse High School senior Ashley Hearn, who made her basketball debut at 5:30 p.m. April 1, at Chicago’s United Center.

Hearn is one of just four female athletes from Texas, and the only North Texan, invited to play on the 2015 girls West Team. The talented basketball player received an Evidence of Excellence award at the March 17 Board of trustees meeting in recognition of this honor.

“I just want to thank all of y’all for your support. It is greatly appreciated,” the 17-year-old said to trustees.

During her last season as a Lady Mustang, Hearn led her team to the Area round of playoffs, averaging 17 points and almost 10 rebounds per game. She also received the Texas Girls Coaches Association’s Class 6A-5A Player of the Year title.

The hometown athlete joins an elite group of just 1,200 McDonald’s All-American alumni, including Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Candace Parker, Maya Moore and Breanna Stewart.

Hearn’s all-star qualities and dedication led to a full scholarship to the University of California, Los Angeles, where she will compete for the Bruins in the fall.

Tune into ESPNU tomorrow to see Hearn in action. To learn more about the McDonald’s All-American Games, visit this website.
