Recognition for Garland firefighter

Mar. 6, 2016

Mayor Douglas Athas and the Garland City Council presented a Special Recognition to firefighter Dalton Harris, Garland Fire Department Station #3, C-shift, during a council meeting in early February. Harris was recognized for going above and beyond his daily requirements while responding to an emergency call last year.

In fall of 2015, Harris responded to a call for a 65-year-old patient who had an internal pacemaker/defibrillator. While mowing his lawn, the patient experienced a run of ventricular tachycardia (v-tach), which caused the defibrillator to fire and knocked the patient to the ground. Station 3 responded to the call, assessed the patient and advised that he be taken to the hospital, to which the patient refused. Harris then advised the patient to go inside and relax while Harris went back outside to finish mowing the patient’s lawn.

For his swift actions and personal kindness, Harris was awarded a Chief’s Coin by Garland Fire Chief Raymond Knight. This selfless act instilled a personal appreciation in the patient as well as pride in Harris’ fellow coworkers.

The Garland City Council recognizes and honors firefighter Dalton Harris for his service and contributions to the Garland community and for going above and beyond the call of duty.
