Saturday, June 5 – 8 a.m. – 10 a.m. – Monthly Work Session – Halff Park, 4695 Ranger Drive – behind Naaman Forest High School near baseball fields. We will continue opening the walking trail that begins at Halff Park. With all the spring rain and fast growth, this trail needs work. Bring loppers and small tree saws, if you have them, but the society has some to share.
Monthly Work Sessions are usually the Saturday after the first Tuesday, but summer dates might not follow usual schedule. For last-minute information, check Facebook or our website for updates, including dates and locations which may change because of conditions. If weather is questionable, check website or Facebook to see whether we will meet.
- Safety Materials: Each work session begins with a safety briefing. BRING WATER. Even in the heat, wear heavy work gloves, long pants, protective eyewear and sturdy shoes (no sandals) for your protection from poison ivy and thorns. All participants and the parents of minors must sign our Liability Waiver. All minors 16 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.
- For Master Naturalists, this may count as volunteer hours on the Preservation Society for Spring Creek Forest project.

July
Saturday, July 17 – 8:30 p.m. – An Evening with Moths – 1770 Holford Road – Garland Parks and Recreation Department and the society are hosting An Evening with Moths, with special guest Sam Kieschnick, Urban Wildlife Biologist from Texas Parks and Wildlife. This family-friendly event is coordinated with National Moth Week which celebrates the beauty, life cycles and habitats of moths. Most moths are nocturnal, so there will be several light sheets setup to attract moths that live in the preserve. Volunteers will be there to answer questions and help with identification. Bring a magnifying glass if you have one. Many of the moths are small.
Try the Self-Guided Interpretive Trail at 1787 Holford Road that was created by the North Texas Master Naturalist chapter in Dallas. Follow the trail markers and read about the significance of the area on your iPhone or on the downloadable flyer. https://springcreekforest.org/interpretive-1787-holford-rd/
