Saturday, April 14 – Keep Garland Beautiful is teaming up with friends at Garland Environmental Waste Services. Trash Off and EWS Earth Day Celebration combined.

 

Fire Administration Parking Lot (across from Recycling Center), 1500 E. Highway 66, Garland

Check-in starts at 8 a.m. Trash pickup: 8:30 a.m. – 11 a.m. Earth Day Celebration: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. – food, games, armadillo races, paper shredding and tours

 

April 14 – Learn more about native plants – The Dallas chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas is offering a full day of education Saturday, April 14, at the George Bush Library. In this Level 1 class, participants will learn about 50 native plants for our area with a visual lecture, plant samples and a walk to see the plants growing.  There will also be a lecture on the benefits of using native plants with sustainable landscaping techniques that provide beauty, reduces the need for supplemental water, mowing, fertilizers and pesticides while offering food and shelter for pollinators and birds.

 

The cost is $37. Class size is limited and there is often a waiting list. Register at npsot.org. Denton and Collin Counties also offer the Level 1 class. Full list of class sites and dates is at npsot.org. Upon successful completion, participants may take Level 2 and 3 classes. Class qualifies as continuing education hours for master gardeners, master naturalists and landscape professions through TNLA.

 

The Dallas NPSOT chapter holds informative meetings on third Monday evening of most months.

 

May 5 – Work session and stay for “Bring Your Own Picnic” – 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., location to be announced. Wear work gloves, long pants and sturdy shoes (no sandals) for protection from poison ivy and thorns.

 

May 7 – Nature walk with Dana Wilson – “Prairie Wildflowers” – 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. 1787 Holford
