Carole Harkins, a stylist at Lemmond’s Salon Suites in downtown Garland, has worked in downtown Garland since the 1990s. Seven of those years were spent at Lemmond’s Salon Suites.
She enjoys her job for lots of reasons, but the most important is that she knows that she is helping her clients. She explained that sometimes, people are ready for a change for a variety of reasons and she loves having the ability to help give them a boost by providing a new cut or color. Harkins said that a new look can often help boost confidence and provide a fresh outlook.
“I love seeing the smiles on customers’ faces when they see their new look,” she said. “In turn, I feel great because I’ve been able to make someone smile.”
Harkins also loves the friendships she has made through the years. Clients have become friends that she gets to visit with on a regular basis and there are always new friendships to make.
Through her community involvement, she has provided hairstyling services for several events in the downtown Garland area including the Ms. Senior Garland competitions and the “Becoming Garland Avenue” production.
Additionally, Harkins is always one of the first to offer free haircuts and styles for charitable auctions. And when the country is not in the middle of a pandemic, she enjoys doing hair for people in nursing homes and assisted living facilities on the days she isn’t 
working at the Lemmond’s.
Since salons have been allowed to reopen after the closure caused by the pandemic, Harkins takes every precaution to see that her clients stay well.
“To keep all of my customers safe from COVID-19, I spray everything with the proper disinfectant after every client,” she said.
“Also, everyone here wears masks at all times.”
The salon has also installed plexiglass dividers between hair washing sinks to limit contact and care is being taken to not exceed the appropriate number of people in the shop at one time.
