Sundance Behavioral Healthcare provides prescription drug drop box

Apr. 9, 2016

Sundance Behavioral Healthcare partnered with IMPACT Garland, a program of Drug Prevention Resources to provide the citizens of Garland and surrounding communities an environmentally safe way to dispose of any expired or unused Prescription and Over-the-Counter medications.  This includes pills, liquids and pet medications, but excludes inhalers, syringes and sharps.

“Because reports are showing that teenager drugs addiction often begin with prescription drugs, I believe it is  important for our community to have a prescription drop box to help eliminate access to prescription drugs to our children,” Ruby Armstrong of Garland ISD said.

One in four teens has misused or abused a prescription drug at least once in their lifetime. Each day, approximately 2,500 teens use prescription drugs to get high for the first time according to the Partnership for a Drug-Free Kids. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, as well as the home medicine cabinet.

Turning in medications to law enforcement officers or your local Prescription Drug Drop Box is the best way to safely dispose of these potentially hazardous materials and keep them away from our youth. Please do not throw away or flush medications down a toilet, which results in contamination of our local water supplies and landfills.

No identification will be required before disposal and no questions will be asked. This service is anonymous and free of charge. For more information regarding the Prescription Drug Take Back program, contact IMPACT Garland at telephone 214-766-8969 or jjansson@dpri.com
