Jun. 11, 2021

Garland Police Department officers arrested 41-year-old Rodolfo Gutierrez-Tapia after he led officers in a vehicle pursuit through multiple cities.

Wednesday, June 3, at approximately 3:30 p.m., Drug Enforcement Administration agents requested Garland Police Department officers’ assistance in performing a traffic stop on a silver pickup truck that was entering the Garland city limits. When patrol officers attempted to stop the truck in the area of Jupiter Road and Walnut Street, the driver, Rodolfo Gutierrez-Tapia, did not stop and began leading them in a vehicle pursuit.

Officers pursued Gutierrez through Garland, Rowlett, Dallas, Richardson, Plano, Allen and into McKinney. During the pursuit, Garland police officers communicated with surrounding agencies, and spike strips were used to disable the two left tires of the pickup. Gutierrez stopped in the 2900 block of Country Road 330 in McKinney where he was taken into custody.

While being arrested Gutierrez stated that he had ingested narcotics. Out of an abundance of caution he was taken to a hospital to be evaluated.

At this time, Gutierrez will be charged with Evading Arrest in a Vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.
