Apr. 19, 2022

The Garland Police Department has updated the status of a murder committed three years ago. The murder resulted in a Capital Murder Investigation.

On May 22, 2019, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Garland police officers responded to a robbery at a convenience store in the 4400 block of West Walnut Street. When officers arrived, they found a victim, later identified as 30-year-old Heng Lam, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Garland Fire Department paramedics transported Lam to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Last week, a Dallas County court sentenced 21-year-old Luis Alejandro Espinoza and 21-year-old Emmanuel Martinez to life in prison, without the possibility of parole, for the robbery and murder of Heng Lam May 22, 2019.

Criminal investigations of major crimes often involve a long and exhaustive effort. This case involved meticulous and comprehensive work between Garland police officers, detectives and forensic investigators, along with prosecutors from the Dallas County district attorney’s office.
