Garland Crime Stoppers hosted its 26th Taste of Garland event Saturday, April 25 at the Curtis Culwell Center. Numerous restaurants’ culinary offerings were showcased and enjoyed by all.
The event is a fundraiser that benefits Garland Crime Stoppers, an organization that offers monetary rewards for individuals who help local law enforcement agencies combat crime by providing tips. Funds are also collected through private donations and no taxpayer money is used in the program.
Calls to Crime Stoppers have led to thousands of arrests for crimes including murder, robbery, rape, assault, illegal drug offenses and firearm offenses.
Mission: Crime Stoppers is comprised of diverse, active and dedicated community representatives. Crime Stoppers provides a method for local law enforcement to receive information on crimes. These efforts increase tips, which in turn increase arrests in our community.
About: Garland Crime Stoppers program began in 1982 from the efforts of our citizens and our police department. The program now operates as an independent organization. The concept has developed into a combination of efforts by local media, businesses, civic and social clubs, law enforcement agencies and the public. Donations of airtime, newspaper space and reward monies have established Crime Stoppers as an effective tool to fight crime in the area.
