Texas Security Bank recently sponsored approximately 200 backpacks for the Back to School Give Away for Hope Clinic of Garland’s patients. The event included lots of happy students and parents. This was the second backpack giveaway sponsored by Texas Security Bank.
“We are so grateful to Shon Cass at Texas Security Bank and member of the Hope Clinic board of directors. He is a servant leader with a heart for community,” Tanya Downing, Hope Clinic’s executive director, said.
According to Cass, the bank stepped in to host the backpack event when its sponsoring group dissolved. Melissa Varela, a Texas Security Bank employee, had been in the group that dissolved and was able to keep going as a member of the bank’s Culture and Values Committee.
The committee’s pillars are serving our team members, their families and the communities we serve emotionally, physically and spiritually. The first year, they provided 100 backpacks. This year they were able to increase that number to 200 backpacks filled with school supplies.
“Melissa gets ALL the credit for this project,” Cass said.
TSB also supports Hope Clinic’s annual “Celebration of Hope” car show event as well as several other initiatives throughout the year.
The bank also has staff members on the boards of Good Samaritans of Garland, Noon Exchange Club and the Garland Education Foundation. In addition, they host a business speakers’ series with the Garland Chamber of Commerce called the BOLD Speaker Series. Cass also serves on the Garland
Chamber of Commerce board.
Downing also expressed gratitude to the Garland High School Key Club members who helped with the backpack giveaway.
“Key Club members are learning how to lead and stand for what’s right through service and volunteerism. In partnership with our local Kiwanis Club, Garland High School students are making a positive impact as they serve others in their schools and communities,” Downing said.
