The Boneyard has areas for all levels

City of Garland elected officials, staff and residents celebrated the opening of Garland’s long-awaited skatepark, “The Boneyard,” Saturday, Oct. 22. Skaters from Garland and surrounding areas have been anxiously awaiting this day for a long time.

Located at Rick Oden Park, 1010 West Miller Road, the $2 million facility was approved as a part of the 2004 bond program.boneyard

At 46,000 square feet, The Boneyard is the second largest skatepark in Texas. it includes areas where beginners can learn new skills and areas where advanced skaters will be challenged.

The Boneyard is divided into three main sections — the Street/Plaza area, the Bowl/Transition area and the Beginner’s area. The park includes a variety of curbs, rails, hips, volcanoes, bumps, drop-ins, bowls and banks to accommodate skaters of all skill levels. All skaters can have a great time at this park while taking advantage of the numerous, varied features.

The 36.8 acre park, named after Little League Baseball player Richard “Rick” Oden, also includes baseball fields, a playground, a picnic area and restrooms. It is also home to the Jack Coleman Tennis Center that includes 13 tennis courts.

The Boneyard is a part of the 2004 bond program. However, Rick Oden Park, is also undergoing major renovations and improvements as part of the 2019 Bond Program.

The 2019 bond program improvements include a new regional playground, pedestrian bridge, shade structures and benches. Drinking fountains, restrooms and trails will also be added.
