Tom Squyres, 68, passed away after a brief but valiant fight with colon cancer. A Naval committal ceremony will be held to honor his military service during the Vietnam War as a Seabee in the Navy’s Construction Battalions. The service will be held Friday, June 12, at 3:15 pm, at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, 75211.

Tom was born in Niagara Falls, New York, to Thomas Leslie Squyres Sr. and Ehde Beth (Stamler) Parrish. He is survived by his daughter Leslie Steenburgen and grandson Xander of North Richland Hills. He is also survived by his mother, Beth Parrish of Murray, Kentucky; brother Gerald Squyres of Woodsboro, Texas; sisters Cindy Price of Houston and Becky Wojciechowski of Murray, Kentucky; and countless loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss his smiling eyes and unforgettable laugh.

Tom was well known for his work ethic. After having a paper route in grade school, he began working in construction at age 15. He was an Eagle Scout in the Order of the Arrow, the national honor society of the Boy Scouts of America. He graduated from Tascosa High School in Amarillo and Amarillo College, and attended Texas Tech. His passion for fitness was legendary. He managed health spas and toured Texas as Spider-man for Marvel Comics. Later he managed apartment complexes and finished out his career in security.

Tom loved life and NASCAR. He was positive and upbeat, cheerful to all, loved by many, and a friend to everyone he met. He made the world a better place by helping other people. The angels have welcomed him home as one of their own, but Tom will always be a part of those whose lives he touched, living in our hearts forever.
