Two suspects arrested after police pursuit

Mar. 10, 2020

On Monday, March 9, just after 2 p.m., Garland Police Department officers responded to an Aggravated Robbery call at a restaurant in the 1400 block of West Buckingham Road. Two suspects entered a restaurant and demanded money from an employee. The employee complied and the suspects fled on foot.

One was wearing a mask and armed with a handgun. The second was an African American male wearing a bandana and a distinctive jacket.

Shortly after the robbery, a traffic officer observed a vehicle with expired registration at the intersection of Walnut Street and Jupiter Road. The traffic officer was aware of the earlier robbery and noted that there were two occupants in the vehicle. When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the vehicle made several quick turns and ran a red light in an attempt to escape. The driver did not stop, leading officers in a pursuit that ended when the vehicle stopped for roadway traffic. Both occupants fled on foot but were captured after a brief foot pursuit and search.

Inside the vehicle, officers located a gun, mask and distinctive clothing from the aggravated robbery that had just occurred.

The driver was identified as Christopher Welsh, 38, of Plano and the passenger was identified as Cederic Miller, 25, of Richardson.  Both suspects were charged with Aggravated Robbery and Evading Arrest.  Both subjects also had outstanding warrants from other agencies.

The investigation is ongoing.
