Aug. 16, 2021

Philadelphia 76er and Garland native, Tyrese Maxey hosted the first Tyrese Maxey Foundation Basketball Skills Camp for Garland’s local youth at South Garland High School this past weekend

Local sponsors, included Big Tony’s West Philly Cheesesteak, DFW Hoops Royce Dixon, skills MaxLevels Elite coaches, the Tyrese Maxey Foundation, and the entire Garland community. The Tyrese Maxey Foundation Basketball Skills Camp serves as a resource for young Garland athletes to learn and train from the community and athletic leaders.  Camp participants were able to learn player IQ drills, shooting, footwork and precision passing skills and read and react drills to play 3 on 3 and 5 on 5 situational games with Tyrese Maxey, himself.

The foundation’s camp was attended by more than 150 local kids between 7-14. Student-athletes were able to focus on basketball skills and off-the-court skills through life lesson mentoring that focuses on the Tyrese Maxey Foundation core values: faith, family, finance and even fashion. Camp participants will continue to have the opportunity to learn from those making a difference around them and learn how they can also make a difference in their own community.

About the Tyrese Maxey Foundation:

The Tyrese Maxey Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded on faith-based values that teaches today’s youth to take the initiative on and off the court. With a focus on faith, family, fashion and finance; the Tyrese Maxey Family Foundation aims to give back to ensure scholars’ success toward a collegiate education and a professional athletic career. In an effort to make this happen, community events, monetary and item donations, speaking engagements, high school prep rallies attendance, financial discussions, college talks, and more will be the start of the Tyrese Maxey Foundation stamp in the Garland community to raise the next generation of heroes.
