On Monday, March 6 at approximately 5:30 p.m. Garland police officers attempted to stop a white passenger car at South Jupiter Road and Russwin Drive for traffic-related offenses. Both officers discharged their duty weapons.  The suspect was struck by the returned fire.

Garland EMTs were on the scene and provided immediate medical aid. The suspect was transported to the hospital in critical condition. The subject was determined to be armed with a handgun.

Detectives from the Garland Police Department, along with members of the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office Public Integrity Unit, responded to the scene to investigate according to standard procedures.

The officers will be placed on paid administrative leave in accordance with departmental policy.
