Urban Flea Market and downtown Garland offer all-day fun

Mar. 14, 2018

Downtown Garland visitors enjoyed warm, sunny weather and great shopping opportunities at this season’s first Urban Flea Market Saturday, March 10. The open-air market has become a popular event for shoppers who love vintage and repurposed items, handcrafted goods, live music and fun.

The vendors are carefully selected and only the best make the cut. The result is a unique assortment of handmade candles and soaps, handcrafted jewelry, vintage tools, glassware, gourmet foods, clothing, furniture and much more.

The Urban Flea, hosted by Intrinsic Smokehouse & Brewery, is held on the second Saturday of the month from March – December, with the exception of August, which is, of course, because of Texas’ famous summer heat. It’s tough to keep one’s mind on shopping in 100 degree heat!

When scheduling a trip to the market, plan to stay all day in downtown Garland and browse through gift boutiques, antique shops, furniture stores, a vintage clothing store, a large resale store and more.

And be sure to stop in at one of the special eateries for lunch or an early dinner. With choices like PawPaw’s Sweet Shop, Dos Banderas Tex-Mex, Intrinsic Smokehouse & Brewery, Main Street Café, 1 Pound Burger, Main Street Deli, Fish & Tails Oyster Bar, Rosalind’s Coffee and Eats and Hubbard’s Cubbard.

Downtown Garland is also home to Heritage Park which consists of the Landmark Museum at 393 North Sixth Street. The museum is housed in Garland’s renovated 1901 Santa Fe Depot and is situated beside a refurbished 1910 Pullman Coach and the 19th century Tinsley-Lyles House. The museum houses artifacts including tools, quilts, newspapers, housewares and furniture and is open Saturdays, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Downtown Garland is easily accessible by the DART Rail System and by car.
