Thursday, March 14, at approximately 9:30 p.m., the Garland Police Department officers attempted to stop a White Dodge Ram Truck for a traffic violation in the 1900 block of Pendleton Drive. The driver of the truck, later identified as 28-year-old Roger Avalos, did not stop and attempted to evade officers in the vehicle. Avalos led officers in a vehicle pursuit from Garland into Dallas, where it ultimately ran through a red light colliding with a blue suburban in the intersection. This caused the Dodge Ram to flip on its side and Avalos was arrested.
Avalos and the driver of the Suburban were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
The Dodge Ram was confirmed to be stolen out of Mesquite.
Avalos was released from the hospital and then transported to the Garland Detention Center. He is charged with Unauthorized Use of Motor Vehicle, Evading Arrest and several outstanding felony warrants.
His warrants were for two counts of Endangering a Child, Unauthorized Use of Motor Vehicle and Evading Arrest.
