This investigation is ongoing and additional persons may be charged.

On Saturday, Nov. 19, Garland Police Department officers were involved in a vehicle pursuit that ended with the suspect’s vehicle crashing. The accident resulted in the death of one of the passengers in the suspect vehicle.

At around 10:06 p.m., Garland Police Department officers attempted to stop a white Tahoe believed to be involved in a string of burglaries throughout the Metroplex. The occupant(s) of the vehicle were known to be armed during these burglaries and were considered dangerous, having discharged a gun in a previous offense. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop and fled into the city of Dallas.

During the pursuit, the suspect vehicle pulled away from pursuing units and the location of the suspect vehicle was relayed to units by DPS 101 (Department of Public Safety Air Unit). Once in the area of the 12200 block of Greenville Avenue in Dallas, the driver failed to maintain control of the vehicle, overcorrecting, causing the vehicle to overturn.

As a result, three of the five occupants were transported to a hospital with injuries. The two other subjects exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. However, they were quickly apprehended.

Once at the hospital one of the injured succumbed to their injuries.

The alleged driver of the vehicle, and wanted person, 18-year-old Joey William Jarvis of Dallas was arrested. Jarvis is being charged with evading arrest and detention causing serious bodily injury (two counts) and engaging in organized criminal activity (three counts). Additional charges on Jarvis are pending.

Jarvis is currently in the Garland Detention Center. No bond has been set.

This is an ongoing investigation.
