Garland resident and U.S. Air Force veteran Yvonne Garrison received a much-deserved gift Thursday, Nov. 8. Garrison, who spent two years as a nurse in Vietnam, needed a bathroom remodel for her safety and independence. Bath Expo teamed up with Baths for the Brave to meet that need. Garrison referred to the remodel as a “godsend.”
She and her family immigrated to the U.S. from Holland in 1955. In 1966 Garrison became a United States citizen.
“We’ve been good old Americans ever since,” Garrison said.
She was sworn into the Air Force in 1967 where she reached the rank of First Lieutenant.
Garrison was one of 10 veterans who received a bathroom renovation for Veterans Day as Baths for the Brave partnered with 10 home improvement companies across the country. They teamed up to give back to those who have sacrificed so much for all Americans – our veterans — as well as to thank them for their service. The national program is led by Tundraland Home Improvements, a Wisconsin-based company.
The 10 free remodels, which total over $100,000, will happen simultaneously and will be completed in one day. The goal is to improve the lives of veterans who were left disabled from their military service or have experienced hardships that prevent them from completing normal tasks such as bathing.
