From Monday, March 4, to Monday, April 1, the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) will make its required annual change to the way it disinfects our drinking water. The change will prepare the system for the heat and high demand of the spring and summer months.
NTMWD, our water provider, uses chlorine maintenance, a common practice throughout the nation, to maintain water quality as it travels through the pipes. Garland Water Utilities responds by flushing main water lines throughout the city. This helps to quickly move the water through our system and helps offset any changes in taste and odor.
During this time, some customers may notice a stronger taste and smell of chlorine. It is important to note that the quality of our drinking water remains safe for all uses, including drinking. Our licensed water technicians take daily water samples from throughout the city to consistently ensure that our water is safe.
