Week 1: GISD high school football

The high school football season is underway and week 1 is in the books. Three of the Garland ISD high schools got non-district wins.

 

Raiders get victory over Frisco Liberty HS

 

Scoring 28 points in the first quarter, the North Garland Raiders got a 38-24 win over Frisco Liberty High School Friday, Aug. 31 at Garland’s Williams Stadium. Sabron Woods put together 128 rushing yards and scored two of the Raiders’ TDs. Quarterback Peyton Farrington threw for 133 yards for two of the Raiders’ TDs, one to Kennington Henson and the other to Ralphel Ellis.

 

RHS gets win over McKinney Boyd HS

 

The Rowlett Eagles took an early lead and went on to a 45-21 victory over McKinney Boyd Friday, Aug. 31 in McKinney. Quarterback Chase Toupal threw for 232 yards and two TDs while Chauncey Amos carried the ball 14 times for 115 yards for the Eagles. Jerry Evans caught nine Toupal throws for 136 yards and two scores.

 

Patriots defeat Arlington Seguin HS

 

The Lakeview Centennial Patriots outscored Arlington Seguin High School 48-8 in their season opener Thursday, Aug. 30 in Arlington. Camar Wheaton scored five of the Patriots’ touchdowns and rushed for 171 yards. Isaiah Haro scored on a 48-yard pass reception from quarterback Aidan Gary.

 

Owls defeated by Irving MacArthur HS

 

The Garland Owls were defeated by Irving MacArthur High School 21-10 Thursday, Aug. 30 in Irving. Montana Miller scored the Owls’ TD and rushed for 117 yards on the game. James Cassidy added a 24-yard field goal for GHS.

 

Mustangs suffer loss in heartbreaker against Coppell HS

 

After four quarters of back and forth lead changes in Coppell, the Sachse Mustangs lost to Coppell High School Friday, Aug. 31. A 57-yard field goal by Coppell HS scored at the end of the fourth quarter decided the game. The Mustangs had retaken the lead with just over 21 seconds left in the game but lost with no time left because of the long field goal. Micah Buchanan started things off for the Mustangs’ on a 100-yard interception return for a TD.

 

Colonels lose to Princeton HS

 

The South Garland Colonels were defeated 45-6 by Princeton High School Friday, Aug. 31 at Garland’s Homer B. Johnson Stadium. The Colonels’ TD came in the second quarter on a 61-yard run by Jaquarion Turner who rushed for 140 yards in 22 carries.

 

Rangers defeated by Propser HS

 

The Naaman Forest Rangers lost to Prosper High School 48-14 Saturday, Aug. 1 in McKinney. Jourdan Boze scored early for the Rangers on a short run and the other NFHS TD came on a 67-yard pass reception from quarterback Palmer Cooper to Lemuel Adams.
