The first games of the 2021 high school non-district season were played Thursday, Aug. 26, and Friday, Aug. 27. Three Garland ISD high schools won their opening games. The Naaman Forest Rangers game against Frisco HS was canceled.
Lakeview Centennial Patriots over Arlington Sam Houston HS
The LCHS Patriots got a 34-10 win over Arlington Sam Houston High School. Savion Hunter and Johnathan Heste each scored rushing touchdowns for the Patriots. Zechariah Dunston scored two rushing TDs. Caylon Montgomery scored on a reception from Patriots’ quarterback Johnathan Heste.
Garland Owls defeat Kimball HS
The GHS Owls defeated Kimball High School by a final score of 55-13. The Owls’ quarterback Cergio threw five touchdown passes – to Jordan Hudson, Jayshon Powers, Ellis Rogers and two to Charles Allen. Jaytric Geter rushed for a score. The Owls’ defense scored on a fumble and an interception.
South Garland Titans lose to Grand Prairie HS
The SGHS Titans were defeated by Grand Prairie High School by a final score of 55-6. The South Garland TD came on a 64-yard pass reception from the Titans’ quarterback Billy Shelly to Jacob Crim.
North Garland Raiders defeat Irving HS
The NGHS Raiders got a 34-7 win over Irving High School. De’Aundre Johnson made a touchdown on a reception from quarterback Raiders’ Godspower Nwawuihe who also rushed for a score. Jaden Davis also scored a rushing TD.
Rowlett Eagles lose to Waxahachie HS
The RHS Eagles suffered a 28-22 overtime loss to Waxahachie High School. Rowlett’s quarterback Harris Boyd connected with both Ernest Thomas and Corey Kirkling for scores.
Sachse Mustangs lose to Coppell HS
The SHS Mustangs were defeated by Coppell High School by a score of 42-28. Mustangs’ quarterback Alex Orji connected with Jamari Harts for two TDs. Orji also rushed for two scores. The coaches’ pick for offensive MVP was Luke Keefer. The pick for defensive MVP was Cortland Lemar.
