Week 4 HS football: District play begins

Week four of the Garland ISD HS football season – the first week of district play – brought some high-scoring contests. The Rowlett Eagles, Naaman Forest Rangers, Garland Owls and Sachse Mustangs got wins.

Eagles 50 – Titans 0

The Rowlett Eagles (1-3, 1-0) got a 50-0 victory over the South Garland (0-4, 0-1) Titans Thursday, Sept. 16, at Homer B. Johnson Stadium.

RHS quarterback James Okolo ended the game at 19-29 with 337 yards and three touchdowns. Okolo also rushed for two scores and collected 61 yards on six carries. Corey Kirkling caught two of the TD passes and Ernest Thomas caught one. Kirkling caught seven Okolo throws for 154 yards. Thomas had five carries for 123 yards. Kingston Johnston had 3 carries for 67 yards and a touchdown.

The Titans were unable to score against the Eagles. Ciro Fernandez had seven carries for 65 yards.

 

Rangers 40 – Raiders 14

The Naaman Forest Rangers (1-0, 0-0) defeated the North Garland Raiders (3-1, 0-1) by a final score of 40-14 Thursday, Sept. 16, at Williams Stadium.

The Rangers had 550 yards on the night – 359 passing and 191 on the ground. NFHS quarterback Tray Walton was 19-27 on the game. Kingsley Bennett carried the ball 16 times for 151 yards and a score. Jaden Flores caught nine passes for 243 yards and an impressive three TDs. Mike Deluna and Roman Williams also caught passes for scores.

Raiders’ QB Godspeed Nwawuihe ended the night at 12-27 with 118 yards and two touchdowns. Mateo Howard and De’Aundre Johnson caught the TD passes.

Owls 48 – Pirates 0

The Garland Owls (4-0, 1-0) defeated the Wylie Pirates (0-4, 0-1) by a final score of 48-0 Friday, Sept. 17, at Williams Stadium.

Owls’ QB Cergio Perez ended the game at 22-29 – 75.86% – and 348 yards. He also passed for four TDs and scored one TD on the ground. Aaron King caught 10 passes for 168 yards and two touchdowns. Charles Allen also caught two TD passes. Keyunte King and Jayshon Powers each scored rushing touchdowns. King had seven carries for 108 yards.

The Owls’ defense held the Pirates to 92 passing yards and 91 rushing yards. Wide receiver Jordan Hudson sustained an injury in the first quarter and was out for the rest of the football game.

 

 

Mustangs 56 – Patriots 27

The Sachse Mustangs (2-2, 1-0) got a 56-27 win over the Lakeview Centennial Patriots (3-1, 0-1) Friday, Sept. 17, at Homer B. Johnson Stadium. SHS quarterback Alex Orji ended the game at 14-22 for 282 yards and five passing TDs. He also carried the ball 11 times for 120 yards and 3 scores. Cam Gladney, who had five catches for 95 yards, caught two of the TD passes. Jhett Creel and Austin Phillips each caught a TD pass.

The coaches’ pick for Offensive Player of the Week was Alex Orji. The Defensive Players of the Week were Albion Krasniqi and Keeland Lamar. R. C. Reeves and Drew Nickerson were the Special Teams Players of the Week.

LCHS quarterback Jonathan Hester II ended the football game at 11-19 for 176 yards. He also rushed for a touchdown. Zechariah Dunston ran for two TDs
