Week 3: HS football

Week three of the high school football season ended in wins for Garland HS, Naaman Forest HS and Lakeview Centennial HS.

Naaman Forest Rangers 33 – Rowlett Eagles 22

The NFHS Rangers (1-2, 1-0) defeated the Eagles Thursday, Sept. 8. Rangers’ quarterback Deangelo Perales ended the game at 18-23 with 188 yards and three touchdowns. Two of the Perales passes were caught by Jason Flores. The other was caught by Dylan Turner. Isaiah Cunning carried the ball 21 times for 100 yards and one TD. Ivan Garcia had five carries for 25 yards and a score.

The Rangers led for most of the game except for a few minutes in the fourth quarter when the Eagles took a 22-21 lead. However, the Rangers went ahead with about seven minutes left in the game. Then, with about three minutes left, they scored an insurance run.

The RHS Eagles (0-3, 0-1) scored twice on Andrew Ellison passes who ended the game at 15-25 with 186 yards. James Okolo caught one of the TD passes. He also carried the ball 10 times for 125 yards. Isaac Loera caught the other TD throw. GerMyius Benson scored the rushing touchdown that gave the Eagles the short-term lead in the fourth quarter.

Wylie Pirates 44 – South Garland 0

The SGHS Titans (1-2, 0-1) were unable to score against the Wylie HS (2-1, 1-0) defense in their Thursday, Sept. 8 game. The Titans were only able to collect 86 offensive yards compared by the Pirates’ 368 yards, 258 on the ground and 110 in the air. Titans’ quarterback Jaden Holland ended the night at 3-6 for 58 yards.

Layne Chapman carried the ball 20 times for 128 yards for the Pirates.

Garland Owls 38 – North Garland Raiders 32

The Garland Owls’ (2-1, 1-0) quarterback Jayden Norwood ended the game at 6-9 with 115 yards and two TDs. In addition, he ran for two scores and collected 97 yards on 17 carries. Keyuntae King had 19 carries for 122 yards and a score. Javien Hudson caught both Norwood TD passes and had three catches for 86 yards.

The game was tied at 24 at the beginning of the fourth quarter but the Owls outscored the Raiders in the last quarter for the win.

The North Garland Raiders’ (2-1, 1-0) QB Godspower Nwawulhe put together 222 passing yards and ended the game at 9-20. In addition, he scored three rushing TDs and had 15 carries for 98 yards. Nwawulhe also completed a pass to De’Corals Taylor for a TD. Taylor had four catches for 134 yards.

Lakeview Centennial Patriots 34 – Sachse Mustangs 28

Each of the teams put together almost 400 offensive yards in a nail-biter Friday, Sept. 9. The Patriots’ QB Jonathan Hester completed 16 of 27 pass attempts for 185 yards and three TDs. Johnathan Whittle caught two Hester throws for TDs and had seven receptions on the night for 87 yards. Trey Wilson also had a 37-yard TD catch. Jack Dustin led the

Patriots in rushing yards with 16 carries for 86 yards and TD. Hester rushed for 64 yards and scored a rushing touchdown.

The Patriots and Mustangs passed the lead back and forth in the second quarter and were tied at 28 at the end of the fourth quarter. The Patriots scored a TD early in their first OT possession for the win.

The Mustangs QB, Brenden George had 7 completions on 19 attempts with 91 yards. R.C. Reeves and Grayson King each rushing touchdowns. Pope Akanna scored two rushing TDs and carried the ball 15 times for an impressive 202 yards.
