Week 5: GISD HS football

Garland ISD high schools competed in the fifth week of district games after a bye for the fourth week. Naaman Forest HS played South Garland HS Thursday, Oct. 18. Lakeview Centennial HS and Garland HS also had a Thursday game. Friday’s games were Rowlett HS against Wylie HS and Sachse HS played North Garland.

 

NFHS defeats SGHS

 

The Naaman Forest Rangers (2-5, 2-2) got a 35-7 win over the South Garland Colonels (1-6, 0-4).

 

Kingsley Bennett got the first score for the Rangers on a 19-yard run in the first quarter. In the second, Bryson Huey got a TD on a 7-yard pass from QB Austin Valdez and Bennett scored again on a 7-yard run. Ja’hari Lee scored twice in the second half, first on a 21-yard run then on an 8-yard run.

 

Valdez finished the game at 9-17 with 130 yards. Bennett had 19 carries for 96 yards.

 

The Colonels’ TD came on a 4-yard run by Jalil Brown in the first quarter. Brown carried the ball 19 times for 72 yards.

Patriots defeat Owls

 

Lakeview Centennial Patriots (5-2, 3-1) got a 63-23 win over the Garland Owls (3-4, 1-3). LCHS scored first when Garnett Burke got an 82-yard kickoff return in the first. Caleb Reed then scored on a 23-yard pass reception from QB Jarret Adams. The defense also scored in the first quarter for the Patriots when James Barton returned an interception 18 yards for a score.

 

Camar Wheaton scored two TDs in a row, one at the end of the first quarter on a 53-yard run and the next at the beginning of the second quarter on a 7-yard run. Also, in the second, Cambryn Jones caught a 43-yard pass from Adams for a TD and Ed White caught a 65-yard pass for a score.

 

Wheaton scored again in the second half on a 78-yard run and Zechariah Dunston scored on a 64-yard run.

 

Adams was 9-13 on the game with 209 yards. Wheaton had eight carries for 200 yards. Jones had four catches for 90 yards.

 

James Cassidy scored first for the Owls on a 29-yard field goal. Jordan Hudson caught a 3-yard pass from QB Cergio Perez for a score in the second quarter.

 

Ronnie Reed scored in the third quarter on a 23-yard run and Charles Allen got a TD on a 40-yard run.

 

Perez was 16-36 on the night with 197 yards. Hudson had seven catches for 99 yards.

 

Rowlett loses to Wylie

 

Wylie HS (3-4, 3-1) defeated the Rowlett Eagles (3-4, 3-1). The score was 14-13.

 

Tre’von King caught a 43-yard pass from QB Alex Routt for the Eagles’ first score. Antonio Hull got the second TD on a 35-yard pass reception from Routt.

 

Routt ended the game at 8-18 with 152 yards and got 47 yards on the ground. Hull had five catches for 66 yards.

 

SHS gets win over NGHS

The Sachse Mustangs (5-2, 3-1) got a 24-21 win over the North Garland Raiders (4-3, 1-3). The Mustangs scored three times in the first half, first on a 29-yard pass reception from Parker Wells, then on a 13-yard run by Jordan Nabors, then on a 42-yard field goal by Addison Perez. Wells scored in the third quarter on a 9-yard run.

 

Wells was 5-12 on the game with 120 yards. Shon Coleman carried the ball 20 times for 96 yards.

 

Sabron Woods got the first Raiders’ TD in the second quarter on a 68-yard run then scored again in the third quarter on a 2-yard run. Goodness Nwawuihe also scored in the third on an 87-yard run.

 

Woods had 38 carries with 227 yards. Nwawuihe carried the ball 11 times for 138 yards.
