Week 6: Garland ISD high school football

This week’s Garland ISD high school football games ended in wins for the Sachse Mustangs, North Garland Raiders and Rowlett Eagles.

 

Sachse gets win over Lakeview Centennial

 

The Mustangs (6-2, 4-1) defeated the Patriots (5-3, 3-2) by a final score of 17-14 Thursday, Oct. 24 at Williams Stadium.

 

The Patriots’ Camar Wheaton got the first score of the game in the second quarter when he caught a 22-yard pass from QB Jarret Adams. But the Mustangs answered less than two minutes later when Shon Coleman took the ball into the end zone on a 1-yard run. The score at halftime was 7-7.

 

SHS took the lead in the third quarter when Addison Perez kicked a 25-yard field goal making the score SHS 10 – LCHS 7. The Patriots took the lead back in the fourth quarter when Garnett Burke scored on a 54-yard run, but the Mustangs scored again on an 18-yard pass from QB Xavier Forman to Jaden Hunter with a minute left in the game, bringing the score to 17-14.

Forman ended the game at 11-27 with 172 yards for the Mustangs.

 

Adams was 6-17 with 127 yards for the Patriots.

 

The SHS coaches recognized offensive linemen Jaivon Ellison for maximum effort. The named Xavier Forman offensive MVP.

 

On defense, Lazarus Rosario and Scotty Jesmer were recognized for great performances. Defensive MVPs were Kori Jones and Anthony Anywanhu. Addison Perez was recognized from special teams.

Rangers lose to Wylie HS

 

The Naaman Forest Rangers (2-6, 2-3) were defeated by Wylie HS (4-4, 4-1) by a score of 14-6, Friday, Oct. 25 at Wylie ISD Stadium.

 

NFHS took the lead in the first quarter on two Francesco Sccaffetti field goals, first a 28-yarder then a 21-yarder. Wylie answered with two TDs in the second quarter. First on a 33-yard Marcus McElroy pass to Aaron Henry and then on a 12-yard fumble return. Neither team scored in the second half, making the final score 14-6.

 

The Rangers’ QB, Austin Valdez was 9-23 on the night and collected 134 yards. Kingsley Bennett carried the ball 22 times for 108 yards. Aden Gonzalez caught four passes for 81 yards.

 

Raiders defeat Colonels

 

The North Garland Raiders (5-3, 2-3) defeated the South Garland Colonels (1-7, 0-5) Friday, Oct. 25 at Homer B. Johnson Stadium. The score was 55-14.

 

Sabron Woods scored three of the NGHS TDs, on 2-, 4- and 75-yard runs. Kerrington Henson got two scores for the Raiders, first on a 38- and 44-yard pass receptions from QB Timothy Gauthier. Kameron Wheeler and Duke Parker also scored on Gauthier pass receptions. Michael Chambers got a TD on a 5-yard run.

 

Gauthier ended the game at 7-9 for 130 yards. Dexter Davis carried the ball eight times for 158 yards. Woods had 14 carries for 145 yards. Henson had two catches for 82 yards.

 

The Colonels scored on a 21-yard pass reception from QB Jalil Brown to Jaylien Chambers in the second quarter, then on a 15-yard run by Brown.

 

Brown was 11-21 on the game with 183 yards.

Eagles defeat Owls

 

The Rowlett Eagles got a 26-24 win over the Garland Owls Friday, Oct. 25 at Williams Stadium.

 

The Eagles scored a 25-yard Sebastian Rodriguez field goal in the first quarter. Colton Yarbrough scored in the second and third quarters on 12- and 65-yard runs. D’Wonyae Newton also got a score in the second quarter on a 4-yard run. The defense scored two points for the Eagles in the fourth quarter on a GHS two-point conversion try.

 

QB Alex Routt ended the game at 13-19 for 146 yards. Yarbrough carried the ball 11 times for 145 yards. Antonio Hull had six catches for 84 yards.

 

Jordan Hudson scored all the Owls’ TDs. In the first quarter, he caught 3- and 18-yard passes from QB Cergio Perez for scores. In the fourth quarter, he and Perez connected on 29- and 31-yard passes for TDs.

 

Perez collected 251 passing yards on 14 completions. Jayshon Powers carried the ball 17 times for 82 yards. Hudson had 10 catches for 188 yards.
