Week 6: High school football

Week 6 of the 9-6A high school football season ended the victories for Garland HS, Wylie HS, Lakeview Centennial HS and Sachse HS.

Garland Owls 17 – Rowlett Eagles 0high school

The Garland Owls got a 17-0 win over the Rowlett Eagles Thursday, Oct. 3. Quarterback Carlos Mojica threw for 151 yards and one touchdown. Caleb Ibeneme caught the TD throw. Sam Marshall also scored for the Owls on a run.

The GHS defense shut out the Eagles’ offense. Ibeneme, Ty’ques Miles and Andrew Nguyen intercepted throws from Eagles’ quarterbacks Samuel Loera and River Kirkhuff.

Wylie Pirates 27 – Naaman Forest Rangers 24

The Wylie Pirates defeated the NFHS Rangers by a score of 27-24 Friday, Oct. 4. The score was tied at 24 until the last seconds of the game when the Pirates got the winning field goal.

Rangers’ quarterback DeAngelo Perales passed for 198 yards and a touchdown. Braylon Deal caught the TD throw. Jaydon Anderson and Ali Vinson scored rushing TDs. Edgar Andrade added a 26-yard field goal.

Lakeview Centennial Patriots 33 – South Garland Titans 16

The Patriots got a 33-16 win over the Titans Friday, Oct. 4. LCHS quarterback Kendrick Sanders ended the night at 27-33 for 286 yards and a touchdown. Trenton Harris caught the TD pass. Sanders also had 94 rushing yards with a score. Prince Guerrero ran for two TDs, and De’Marion had one rushing score.

The SGHS quarterback Edgar Rincon threw for 157 yards and two touchdowns. Santiago Moreno and Brandon Galdanes caught the TD throws.

Sachse Mustangs 19 – Wylie East Raiders 17

The Mustangs handed the Wylie East Raiders their first loss of the season with a 19-17 victory Friday, Oct. 4.

SHS quarterback Dirk Williams threw for 164 yards and a TD. Braedyn Watkins caught the touchdown pass. Brendon Haygood ran for 180 yards on 23 carries and two scores.

The SHS coaching staff recognized the following players:

  • Hunter Hanks – offensive lineman of the game
  • Santana Quinn – offensive skill and special teams
  • Brendon Haygood – offensive MVP
  • Xzavion Williams and Trason Haley – defensive front 7
  • Trent Honeycutt – defensive skill
  • Sean Davault – defensive MVP
