Week 6 recap: GISD high school football

The sixth week of the high school football season, district 10-6A, is in the books with wins for the Rangers, Eagles, Mustangs and Wylie Pirates.

 

Rangers defeat Raiders

 

The Naaman Forest Rangers (1-5, 1-2) got their first win of the season over the North Garland Raiders (4-2, 1-2) at Garland’s Williams Stadium Thursday, Oct. 4. The score was 17-0.

 

Kyrie Ward and Malachi Burrell-Zellars got TDs for NFHS on 26- and 3-yard runs. Francisco Castillo added a 32-yard field goal. Ward carried the ball nine times for 95 yards on the game.

 

Rowlett gets win over South Garlandhigh

 

The Rowlett Eagles (5-0, 3-0) got a 42-20 win over the South Garland Colonels (2-3, 0-3) Thursday, Oct. 4 at Garland’s Homer B. Johnson Stadium.

Chauncey Adams got two TDs for the Eagles, one in the first quarter on a 15-yard pass reception from QB Chase Toupal and the other in the third quarter on a 12-yard run. Jerry Evans also scored twice for RHS. He caught a 51-yard Toupal pass for a TD in the first quarter and a 13-yarder from Toupal in the second quarter. Antonio Hull also added two scores. The first came in the second quarter on a 76-yard pass reception from Toupal. The second was in the third quarter when he caught a 28-yard Toupal pass. Toupal ended the night at 9-14 with 222 yards. Hull collected 104 receiving yards on two carries.

 

The Colonels scores came on a 23-yard pass from R.J. Bell to D.J. Williams in the second quarter, a 37-yard TD run by Jaquarion Turner in the third quarter and 75-yard run by Turner in the fourth quarter. Turner carried the ball 30 times for 250 yards.

 

Mustangs get big win over Owls

 

The Sachse Mustangs (3-3, 3-0) defeated the Garland Owls (1-5, 1-2) 49-0 at Williams Stadium Friday, Oct. 5. The Mustangs scored three times in the first quarter. The first TD was on an 11-yard run by Myles Nash and the second came on a 19-yard run by Derrick Rose. Chase Cromer caught a 66-yard Derrick Rose pass for the third TD.

 

In the second quarter, Cameron Cromer scored on a 2-yard run and Trent Dean got two TDs on 30-yard and 25-yard Derrick Rose passes. Torey Washington scored on a 34-yard run in the fourth quarter.

 

Rose ended the game at 5-9 with 160 yards and 98 rushing yards. Shon Coleman carried the ball for the Mustangs 14 times for 112 yards.

 

Wylie gets win over Lakeview Centennial

 

The Wylie High School Pirates (2-4, 2-1) outscored the Lakeview Centennial Patriots (3-2, 1-2) 28-16 at Homer B. Johnson Stadium Friday, Oct. 5. The first LCHS touchdown was in the second quarter when quarterback Jermaine Johnson ran the ball into the end zone from 6-yards out. In the third, Johnson completed a 40-yard pass to Isaiah Haro for a score. Jason Sauceda added a 37-yard field goal in the second quarter.

 

Johnson ended the game at 8-20 with 103 yards. Camar Wheaton carried the ball 19 times for 111 yards.
