Week four: HS football

Week four of the high school football season ended in wins for the Sachse Mustangs, Garland Owls and North Garland Raiders.

Mustangs 48 – Eagles 41

The Sachse Mustangs and Rowlett Eagles were tied at 41 when, with 2:16 left in the game, the Mustangs scored a TD for the 48-41 win. SHS quarterback Brenden George ended the game at 13-17 with an impressive 230 yards and three touchdowns. George also scored a rushing TD. The three touchdown throws were caught by Courtlin Scott who had seven catches for 176 yards. Pope Akanna got the other three scores on rushing plays and carried the ball 20 times for 160 yards.

SHS coaches recognized the following players:

Offensive lineman – Austin Smith; offensive skill – Brendan George and Pope Akana; offensive MVP – Courtlin Scott

Defense – front 7 – Sean Davault and Chris Talley; defensive skill – Jalen Jimenez; defensive MVP – Corey Walls and Vashon Brunswick

Special teams – Josh Weston

Eagles’ QB Andrew Ellison also had an impressive night at 14-22 for 220 yards and four scores. Corey Kirkling caught two Ellison passes for TDs. James Okolo and Isaac Lorea each caught one touchdown throw. Lorea had three receptions for 98 yards. Devonta Crow scored a rushing TD and carried the ball 20 times for 141 yards. GerMylus Benson also scored a rushing TD.

Owls 35 – Patriots 21

The Garland Owls (3-1, 2-0) trailed the Patriots 14-7 at halftime but came out strong in the second half with four touchdowns. QB Jayden Norwood threw for one TD caught by Nathan Mitchell. The remaining four scores were on rushing plays by Keyuntae King who had 22 carries for 124 yards.

The Lakeview Centennial Patriots’ (2-2, 1-1) QB Jonathan Hester threw for 108 yards and two TDs which were caught by Johnathan Whittle. Hester also had a rushing score and carried the ball 18 times for 130 yards.

Wylie East 36 – Naaman Forest Rangers 22

Naaman Forest Rangers’ (1-3, 1-1) quarterback Deangelo Perales ended the night at 12-25 with 180 yards and a touchdown which was caught by Jason Flores. Isaiah Cummings scored two TDs and had 27 carries for 142 yards.

Wylie East HS is 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in district play.

North Garland Raiders 52 – South Garland Titans 0

Godspower Nwawulhe, the North Garland Raiders (2-2, 1-1) quarterback, threw three touchdown passes, completing 5-9 for 162 yards. De’Corals Taylor collected 103 yards on two carries with two TD catches. Jaden Davis caught the third Nwawulhe TD. Davis added another score on a rush and had 19 carries for 204 yards. Nwawulhe had four carries and ran for two touchdowns. Mateo Howard had a 76-yard kickoff return for a score at the beginning of the second half.

The South Garland Titans (1-3, 0-2) were unable to score against the Raiders’ defense.
