The Garland ISD high school football season began this week with games played Thursday, Oct. 1, and Friday, Oct. 2. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, this game was the first, and only, non-district game of the season for each team. Next week will be the first game of district play.
Please note that Rowlett High School did not have a game this week and will also reschedule its Oct. 9 game against Sachse High School because of a positive COVID-19 test and subsequent quarantining.
North Garland Raiders defeat Irving HS
The North Garland Raiders got a 32-0 win over Irving High School Thursday, Oct. 1. Dexter Davis scored two rushing TDs for the Raiders and Ricky Taylor also ran for a Raider touchdown. Quarterback Nathan Pena connected with Isaiah Watkins and Isaiah DeLeon for scores.
Naaman Forest Rangers lose to Flower Mound HS
The NFHS Rangers lost to Flower Mound High School by a final score of 29-9 Friday, Oct. 2. A 90-yard completion by quarterback Francisco Beltran to Devean Deal accounted for the Rangers’ touchdown. Deal’s total yards in catches was 157. Kingsley Bennett rushed for 136 yards on 21 carries.
Sachse Mustangs defeated by Coppell HS
Coppell High School defeated the Sachse Mustangs
Friday, Oct. 2, by a final score of 42-35. Quarterback Alex Orji ended the night at 14-29 for 325 yards and two touchdowns. He connected with Elijah Aimes and Jaden Hunter for the scores. Orji also rushed for 181 yards and two TDs. Kori Jones also scored a rushing TD for the Mustangs.
Garland Owls get victory over Richardson HS
The Garland Owls got a 48-28 victory over Richardson High School Friday, Oct. 2. Owls’ quarterback Cergio Perez completed 20 of 33 passes, collected 306 yards and threw for five touchdowns. He connected with
Ellis Rogers for two TDs, Jordan Hudson for two, Charles Allen and Shaunte Russell for one score each. Raven Gutierrez added another touchdown on an 11-yard run.
Lakeview Centennial Patriots get win over Irving MacArthur HS
The Lakeview Centennial Patriots defeated Irving MacArthur High School Friday, Oct. 2, by a score of 35-7. Camar Wheaton scored two TDs early and another in the second half and rushed for 113 total yards. Zechariah Dunston rushed for 103 yards and scored one touchdown. QB Michael Hierro threw for 175 yards on the game and connected with Cambryn Jones for one TD. Jones collected 109 receiving yards on the night.
Princeton HS gets win over South Garland Colonels
The South Garland Colonels were defeated by Princeton High School Friday, Oct. 2, by a score of 50-20. SGHS quarterback Jalil Brown completed 11-23 passes for 133 yards and one touchdown to Tyreon Key, who had seven catches for 116 yards. Jayllen Chambers and Brown also scored a rushing TD.
