In 2020, West Nile Virus (WNV) was detected in 11 mosquito samples trapped by The Garland Health Department. Nineteen WNV human cases were confirmed in Dallas County, none in Garland residents. The presence of the disease in mosquitoes means that transmission to humans is possible throughout the city, so residents were urged to take preventative measures.
The Garland Health Department (GHD) is currently trapping at 27 selected locations per week.
