Whataburger®, Gratitude Initiative fundraiser celebrates Month of the Military Child

Apr. 3, 2024

Whataburger is celebrating the Month of the Military Child with a fundraiser that supports the nonprofit Gratitude Initiative. The fundraiser will directly support children of military and veteran families in honor of April being the “Month of the Military Child.”

Guests who visit any Whataburger location and donate a minimum of $1 to the fundraiser will receive a coupon for a free Whataburger with the purchase of a medium order of fries and a 32-ounce drink for use during their next visit.

Gratitude Initiative was established in 2013 to honor our nation’s heroes by helping children of military families succeed in college, their careers and lives. They provide much-needed resources to students of military families in grades 8-12, including one-on-one college and career counseling, SAT®/ACT® test prep, financial aid counseling and scholarships—completely free of charge.

The systemwide restaurant fundraiser is part of Whataburger’s charitable program, Feeding Student Success, which focuses on serving teachers and students at the intersection of food insecurity and education.

“At Whataburger, we understand the unique challenges military students face in their academic journeys,” said Community Relations Manager Allie Watters. “Through Whataburger Feeding Student Success and in partnership with organizations like Gratitude Initiative, we’re privileged to be a part of providing essential resources for their success. It’s an honor to serve those who serve, and we’re grateful for our guests’ support in making the difference.”

The Whataburger Month of the Military Child fundraiser will help ensure thousands of teenagers from our active military and veteran families achieve their college and career dreams.

Lee Sechrist, Gratitude Initiative Co-Founder shared, “Military teens are strong and resilient, with service and dedication to duty engrained in their DNA. As our future leaders in business, science, technology, and more- they will positively impact our nation for generations to come. We thank Whataburger’s outstanding team members and loyal customers for helping us show our gratitude for military families in our local communities, and around the world.”
