Saturday, May 8, at approximately 4:50 p.m. Garland police officers responded to a hit and run accident involving an ambulance in the 400 block of Sonora Road in Garland.
While responding to the call, officers learned that the vehicle was a Wilmer Fire Department ambulance. It had been reported stolen by a white female from Baylor Hospital in Dallas earlier in the day.
Police officers located the ambulance and attempted to stop it by initiating their overhead red and blue lights and sirens. However, the driver refused to stop. The driver of the ambulance also turned on its overhead lights and sirens and led officers in a vehicle pursuit. They drove erratically through a residential area, driving over resident lawns and damaging property.
The driver eventually drove through a metal guardrail in the 2400 block of Rowlett Road causing the ambulance to become disabled. Garland police officers were able to take the driver into custody without any further incident.
The driver, 34-year-old Kimberly Fouty, a resident of Austin, was believed to be under the influence of an illegal narcotic. She is currently in the Garland Detention Center. She is charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, DWI-3rd, Evading Arrest and Detention and Failure to Stop and Leave ID.
The investigation is ongoing. No bond has been set at this time.
